From April to July, Wellcome Images ran a competition in conjunction with the Wellcome Image Awards open to all UK secondary school students. Entrants were asked to describe, in less than 100 words, their favourite among this year's bold, beautiful and groundbreaking images.
The winner is Harriet Foyster, 15, who attends The Priory LSST in Lincolnshire. Her chosen image was 'Ruptured blood vessel', a colour-enhanced scanning electron micrograph by Anne Weston, which can be found in our collection, highlighted in the Favourites gallery.
Harriet wins a print of her choice, three prints to display in her school and the opportunity to be on the judging panel of next year's Awards. For more information, please visit the Wellcome Image Awards website.
The date for next year's Awards is yet to be revealed, so watch this space.
